Three Questions To Ask Your Earthmoving Contractors

by Jaws Contracting, Thursday, July 2, 2020

Here at Jaws Contracting, we have some of the best earthmoving contractors in Alice Springs. Earthmoving is done for numerous reasons, including pipeline trenching, digging culverts, site levelling, construction preparation, and much more.

If you’re part of a building project, chances are you’ll need some kind of earthmoving performed before construction can proceed. When you’re looking for an expert earthmover, here are some questions you need to ask.

What Is Your Experience?

Not only do you want to hire an earthmover who is experienced in general, but you want one who has experience with the kind of job you need done. For example, it takes skill to operate earthmoving equipment in a small area versus a larger one.

Preparing a site for a home may be a little different than preparing for a commercial structure. Talk to your earthmover and be sure they have done the job before and know what they’re doing. Make sure they also have the proper permits and paperwork to carry forward before getting started.

What Kind Of Access Is Needed?

Earthmoving generally requires some pretty large equipment at some point in the process. For that reason, you need to know what kind of access is needed to get that equipment onto the job site.

Trees, foliage, gates, fences, and other structures on the land can get in the way so you’re going to need to have a plan for where and how the earthmovers will get their bobcats, backhoes, and other machinery into the area. The best thing to do is ask your earthmover to come to the property so that you can work together to create a plan for access once the project gets started.

What’s The Cost?

Chances are that you’re working with a budget for your project so you’re going to need to know the cost of earthmoving so you can make sure to allow room for it when you work through the financial aspect of the job.

Make sure you understand what the total cost is projected to be what might incur additional fees or charges. Make sure there won’t be any surprises and that any changes to the budget are discussed with you before work continues. Also, ask about what might happen during the job that could alter the price so you're ready for that if it happens.
